Illinois Coalition for Manufacturing Innovation

Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), in partnership with Argonne National Laboratory and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Foundation, launched a pilot initiative to create and disseminate improved models for adoption of innovation by small and medium-sized manufacturers through collaboration with research institutions, mainly located in the State of Illinois. Furthermore, this partnership will initiate innovation in engineering education.

Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory, one of the U.S. Department of Energy's oldest and largest national laboratories for science and engineering research, employs roughly 2,900 employees, including about 1,000 scientists and engineers, three-quarters of whom hold doctoral degrees. Argonne's annual operating budget of around $540 million supports upwards of 200 research projects, which are broadly described below. Since 1990, Argonne has worked with more than 600 companies and numerous federal agencies and other organizations.

Argonne's mission is to apply a unique mix of world-class science, engineering and user facilities to deliver innovative research and technologies. We create new knowledge that addresses the most important scientific and societal needs of our nation.

We actively seek opportunities to work with industry to transfer our technologies to the marketplace through licensing, joint research and many other collaborative relationships.

IIT Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) Department

The MMAE Department at IIT offers great programs in all three areas of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering. We continually update and improve our curriculum to provide an even better education for our students.

It is our top priority to attract outstanding students to the MMAE undergraduate and graduate programs; to accomplish this we offer competitive financial packages (e.g. research and teaching assistantships for graduate students, and scholarships for undergraduate students) to highly qualified students. Qualified students are recommended to apply to our programs and take advantage of such opportunities.

The MMAE Department is very active in research. Currently, there are two research centers in the department, the Fluid Dynamics Research Center and the Thermal Processing Technology Center. The department also has several state-of-the-art laboratories in various research fields. We value collaborations with industry and encourage industry professionals to take advantage of our faculty expertise and research facilities.
