Volunteer for Build It Learn It Day in February 2010

 

We are looking for people to get involved with Build It Learn It Day in February 2010. Chicago Public Schools students on Science Olympiad teams from the Urban Schools Initiative will be attending the session to learn more about concepts in math, science, engineering and technology.

There will be a lead person from Science Olympiad, a local university, and/or a local science institution who will running the stations. Volunteers will assist the leads in making sure all students get an opportunity to learn. Volunteers will answer questions about their fields of knowledge and/or work, along with demonstrating concepts (the demonstrations are designed by the Science Olympiad organization).

People who are passionate about their fields of study and/or work, and want to share this knowledge with middle school and/or high school students are a great fit for this volunteer role. These students may not have access to mentors in science, engineering, math and/or technology to get ready for the Science Olympiad competition. Volunteer and share your passion.

This is also an opportunity for organizations to distribute items promoting their brands and discuss their work experiences as 300+ students move through the learning stations.

If you are interested in a longer-term volunteer opportunity, you may work with a school directly by mentoring students about a specific topic in science, engineering, math and/or technology, one time or multiple times. See the list of schools for one close to you.
